Isle of Hope
This unique riverside community is a crescent-shaped island on a horseshoe bend in the Skidaway River. It is typically a peninsula but becomes an island at high tide. Originally, Isle of Hope was established in the mid-1800s as a historic summer retreat for nearby Savannah residents, offering a place to escape the heat and mosquitoes of the city. The area now consists of a diverse collection of residences, ranging from small cottages to imposing mansions, all richly landscaped with magnificent live oaks, palms, and other shade trees. Architectural styles represented include Greek Revival, Victorian Eclectic, Neoclassical, Craftsman/Bungalow, as well as examples of vernacular cottages and a few antebellum houses. It retains a sleepy Low Country charm while being only 20 minutes from downtown Savannah. The community offers a pool, tennis courts, playground, community center, and a new marina. This popular neighborhood sits next to the Wormsloe Historic Site, one of Georgia’s most famous and photogenic sights.
